I will finish Hel’s Bet this weekend. I only have 3 chapters to finish, and they are each over 50% done.
Then I will circulate it among friends and offer it to members of the Singularity Institute discussion list, hoping for a blurb useful when I look for an agent.
I spent the first part of this week reading Hel’s Bet out loud. It took many hours over many days to finish it – it’s 137,741 words right now. I think that’s the equivalent of a 300 page book. It was useful to read it out loud. I caught a lot of awkward sentences and some continuity problems. I also ripped out a couple thousand words. That felt good.
I always thought of Hel’s Bet as a slim novel, but it will have some heft without being a doorstop.
I’d love to have some readers from Clarion West. Let me know if you’d like to read it. I’m going to beg piteously for readers from my class of 2002.
